I grew up in Canada and have a Dutch Canadian background because both of my parents were born in the Netherlands and moved to Canada.
When I was young, one of my favourite things to do was to read books. Many of the books I read were adventure stories based in Holland, and some of them were about life in Holland during World War 2. I read about Corrie Ten Boom whose story made a deep impression on me. So it was very special to me to write about her life for the Tales of Truth series by Day One.
Shortly after the book was published, I was excited to find out that in my own family history there was a Dutch man who did similar work to Corrie Ten Boom. He and his family were involved in saving hundreds of Jewish people during WW2.
One of my favourite types of books to read are Christian biographies. I am always encouraged when I read about what God has done in other people’s lives. If he
has done such amazing things for them, then I know that I can trust him to direct my life as well.
I became a Christian when I was very young, even before I went to school. I have always prayed that God will lead my life where he wants me to go. I never expected him to lead me to the UK. However, I have learned that God often does surprising things in our lives.
I have been in the UK for 15 years and now live in Wales with my husband Paul who is a pastor. He is English, but his surname is Polish because his grandfather was Polish. So that makes our four children part British, part Canadian, part Dutch and part Polish!
